AI update for (Christian) educators, October 2025

At the end of each month I look back: what happened that Christian educators, in my view, should know? A brief selection of AI news that touches on family, school and faith.

So now October 2025.

1. Sora 2

OpenAI launched Sora 2, with which lifelike videos of real people can be made. The feature is not yet officially available in the Netherlands, but can be used via a VPN. Disrespectful videos of, among others, Martin Luther King Jr. already appeared and had to be blocked.
Relevant because: fake videos are becoming ever harder to recognise and images can easily be misused for bullying or manipulation.

2. ChatGPT and age limits

ChatGPT introduced age verification and, almost immediately afterwards, announced an erotic mode for verified adults (from December).
Relevant because: it is important to check your child's age settings carefully and to set boundaries before young people come into contact with such features.

3. Conversations about despair

In October it became known that every week a million people talk to ChatGPT about suicidal thoughts. That saddens me: so many people who apparently find this the best place to share their despair. On the one hand AI can genuinely help in such need (and often refers on well), on the other hand there are also distressing examples where it actually reinforces such feelings.
Relevant for: awareness and the need for real contact.

4. Work and the future

Large companies such as Amazon and ING announced layoffs [...].
