NotebookLM: an AI environment to master learning material
To guide our children well in AI times, we shouldn't only think about risks, but in my view also make sure opportunities are reachable for as many children as possible.
That's why today I'm sharing an AI environment I'm enthusiastic about myself: Google's NotebookLM. Already known to some, but certainly not to everyone, I noticed during the parent evenings. Because I later still got grateful messages, I'm sharing it here too. 😊
Why do I think this is a tip for your children?
- You take a photo of the learning material or of your own summary (the latter is wiser copyright-wise) and have a complete podcast made of it with one push of a button.
- You can indicate what you want to hear, for example mainly facts if a test is coming up (diving into the book afterwards is of course smart anyway, but then the material has at least already passed by once extra).
- NotebookLM stays close to the text; really a step in personalised learning for auditory learners and pupils with dyslexia, certainly for subjects like geography, history and biology.
- You can have a multiple-choice test made on the same material to check whether you understand it, including feedback.
- You can make flashcards or a mind map with it, also simply via a photo.
I myself also like to use it to turn a recorded meeting (with permission) into minutes. And there's more: an infographic, a PowerPoint about the material, etc.
I'd say: definitely worth trying. You'll soon notice which functions suit how you learn. 😊
