Does my child use AI?
On the schoolyard another parent asked me: "In my view AI does not yet have a place in our family. How can I be sure of that?"
AI is already everywhere:
- Your phone corrects your spelling → AI
- You log in with face recognition → AI
- Your email filters spam → AI
But there is more. As you read in my previous post, generative AI has been available to everyone since 2022:
- ChatGPT, writing texts, answering questions
- DALL-E, making images
- Suno, composing music
- CoPilot, helping with schoolwork (offered, for example in MOO, to our primary school pupils!)
- Voice assistants, practising English for example
Perhaps you can ask your child specifically: do they already use any of this? For homework? For a presentation? To make a video?
The chances are high that the answer will surprise you.
AI is no longer the future. It is now. It is in your home. How do we guide our children in this?
