Can you thank God for AI?

Can you thank God for AI?

That was the question I just asked my children. Quite a daring question, because there are so many critical voices. And then specifically to thank?

Yet it doesn't feel far-fetched to me.

  1. In my volunteer work for Love Justice International I see how AI and data analysis help recognise signals so that children and adults being trafficked can be intercepted. Through the use of AI, this organisation does something incredibly beautiful.
  2. At Wycliffe Bible Translators, AI has provided an enormous acceleration in translating the Bible into new languages. The tools analyse structures and patterns in languages that sometimes were never written down before.
  3. In countries such as Ghana, Christian missionary organisations integrate AI in early detection of childhood diseases through AI scans, which can be lifesaving in areas with limited care.
  4. And personally I am grateful for access to expertise about "twice exceptionality" (a diagnosis combined with giftedness). This plays a role in our family. In the US there is a lot of knowledge about this; thanks to a specialised GPT I have access to that expertise.

Curious what your answer would be. Have a good day!

Our children's response to the question:

J (13): no, you can't, because what if it actually turns out to be the antichrist...
J (11): no, you don't thank God for your car either, do you?
M (10): it depends. In hospitals it's super useful, but with unnecessary use you can't thank for it
M (7): but doesn't the Bible say you should thank God in everything?
